As of the 2014 school year, our Parents' Committee will select 3 Parent Commissioners to represent our interests at the Council of Commissioners. We will elect one representative for Elementary, Secondary, and Special Needs.
The role of the Parent Commissioner is very important and they must make every effort to attend all meetings of the Council of Commissioners and any
other commitments to Council.
Parent Commissioners represent the Parents’ Committee at Council, communicating the position of our Committee and providing advice to Council and the standing committees of Council. Although Parent Commissions have the same rights and responsibilities as the other commissioners, they are not entitled to vote at Council or on its Executive.
Parent Commissioners must ensure Parents’ Committee is consulted on matters requiring compulsory consultation and must act persuasively such that the parents' advice be considered in all decisions. Additionally they report to PC on the matters discussed and decided upon at Council.
A Parent Commissioner should:
• Be Informed on educational matters;
• Be available for several monthly meetings (ie. Governing Board, PPO, Parents’ Committees, Council of Commissioners, Executive Committee, school board and external committees);
• Share parents’ concerns and priorities;
• Be able to reflect the views of the Parents’ Committee.
